Some guy visits Salt Lake. THE Salt Lake.

What: Neil Steinberg surprises the locals by deciding to swim in the Great Salt Lake. Afterward, he visits Temple Square.

Quote: "Our hosts were pleasant and low-key, welcoming us, encouraging us to ask questions, to sign up for information and home visits, showing us around the impressive buildings (though not inside the Temple itself, which is reserved for those who are not doomed to hell)."

Reaction: As a Utah native, I am sorry to admit that I have never even set foot on the beach of the Great Salt Lake. It's like I don't even know where it is (and the Utah maps always make it look so big). In fact, the freshest memory I have of the lake is the moment when I sat at the top of the Lagoon ferris wheel, looked over at some stretch of that body of water, and thought, "By golly I'm going to see that place up close someday."

  1. Yeah, those of us who have made the Wendover and/or Reno trip know the flats pretty well :) I stopped by THE Salt Lake once (I think) but it cost money to get in. Or something. Yeah, I'm not really sure.

  2. It is like growing up in Utah and never skiing.
