To Help the Poor

What: The Church adds another mission to the oft-cited threefold mission of the church (now to be called "purposes.")

Quote: "It's not that Mormons haven't already been caring for the poor and needy with its humanitarian program. It's just that this moves it to the top of their priorities, along with proselytizing and temple work."

Reaction: Depending on your perspective, you can view this as an addition of one more layer to the pile of things you are neglecting to do, or you can view it as an expansion of worthy service opportunities. When you have an hour to devote to the Lord, there are now four things that are considered of equal importance that you can choose from.
